Community Focus

The Project

Community Focus, an innovative not-for-profit National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider on the Sunshine Coast, collaborated with CROFTI to address its operational hurdles and enhance its service delivery. This case study showcases how a bespoke tech solution significantly improved the organisation’s efficiency, service outcomes, and ensured long-term sustainability. As an NDIS provider, Community Focus is unique in its employment of lived experience workers to provide invaluable support within the community, aiding others to live fulfilling lives. However, this approach posed a unique challenge: the lack of technological proficiency among the workforce. Their previous standard software, designed for medical practitioners, lacked the essential features required for their fieldwork.

The Problem

To resolve these issues, CROFTI adopted a bespoke approach. Following a comprehensive review of their existing processes and desired outcomes, the team identified that a custom-built solution was necessary. They developed several applications on the Microsoft Power Platform, which offered full control and customisation that catered to the specific needs of Community Focus. See screenshot samples here.

The Solution

Community Focus grappled with issues of mobile note entry, shift work time entries, and dynamic work hour management. The software in use was not user-friendly for their technologically less adept staff, significantly impacting efficiency and the quality of community engagement. Their staff needed more time for high-quality interactions with NDIS participants rather than wrestling with technology

Implementation

The project spanned nine months, with the first three months dedicated to reviewing processes and testing existing products, followed by six months of custom application development. During the implementation, pilot staff were involved in real-time testing, providing feedback that helped refine the solution for efficiency and effectiveness.

The bespoke tech solutions exceeded Community Focus’s expectations. They significantly simplified staff roster management, note-taking, payroll/billing processes, and even mandatory government reporting. The latter led to Community Focus passing their official audits on the first review – a first for the organisation. Immediate benefits included increased staff efficiency, freeing up more time for quality engagement with NDIS participants.
